Registration is fast (less than 2 minutes), simple, absolutely free and gives you access to a wealth of FIAT information.Join the largest FIAT community on the web today!I have Fire 1100 Uno, with manual choke which has to be pulled all the way backward to start functioning. There is no more functional middle step (I can feel its position, but no impact on carburator). Carburator only responds to fully pulled choke lever. Any idea? Engine compression ratios and age of the engine, also affect the function of the choke also. One easy check is to have a friend help you start the engine while you look at the linkage and determine if the cable is binding, lots of DW40 helps to free up sticky cables. The outer cable sheath is clamped at the bottom by a little bracket and the inner cable is clamped to the top of the choke mechanism lever by a screw. What may have happend is that the one of the clamps has worked loose allowing the cable to move about. To check, remove the airfilter and ask someone to move the choke lever inside the car while you look at the mechanism. The choke butterfly should be fully open with the choke pushed all the way in (off) and fully closed with the choke pulled out. You can feel a 'mid' position when operating the choke and this is caused by a spring loaded ball that indents on the inside of the choke arm. That may have worn or broken which is why you don't feel the middle position any more. Once you check this you should isolate the cause of the problem Good luck! Chas. I think I've only owned one car with a choke in my life and to be completely honest I can't remember how the thing worked exactly. Do you start with your foot on the accelerator or not? I've had quite a few cars with a manual choke but most of them didn't even need it provided services and plugs and such were all in tip top condition. Im guessing each car verys though. A choke, in the really old days of SU and Stromberg carbs, literally choked off the airflow upstream of the throttle butterfly. The increase in vacuum density (strange term, perhaps air rarity would be better) caused more fuel to be drawn from the fuel metering jets within the carburettor body. THe need for extra fuel is because at low engine temperatures the airborne fuel mist would condense on the intake manifold walls, thus, starving the engine of fuel and causing stalling. Cars with sequential injection need much less help as the injectors generally deliver fuel to the back of the inlet valves just before the valves open. So the condensation problem is largely removed. But the mixture still is slightly richer than normal at this point. This is achieved without 'choking' the engine now. The ECU simply directs the injectors to deliver slighty more fuel than normal. A higher idle speed is often still set to encourage swift warm up which means that the car is running optimally very soon after a cold start. This is important to protect lambda sensors and the cat itself. God can't remember when i heard someone talking about a choke, haha!! They took abit of getting used to but once you use it, then it was no hassle. No way the Fiat would have started though without it on a cold morning though!! lol!! She was a great little car!!:cheesy: I invloved stamping on the accelerator with your right foot and releasing it again before turning the key. It did actually work quite well although the engine, although running sweetly, was idling at slightly over 2000rpm during the whole cold start process.https://complektuha.com/UserFiles/esprimo-p910-manual.xml This made smooth driving extremely hard. The worst auto choke I encountered was on my 2.0 litre (single) carb fed Montego. Anyone remember the dreaded stepper motor which wound the jet body downwards to enrich the mixture. This was hideous, the engine used to misfire and hesitate dreadfully. I replaced it with a manual conversion kit and peace was restored. Not all behaved as they should, the last one being the Mini 25 I had 2 years ago. I suppose the question to ask is-what was your first fuel injection engined car. A tough one to remember that far back. I think mine was a Vauxhall Carlton 2.2CDi on a B plate. I never had any classics like the Triumph Pi etc, most of classics were of the carb and twin carb variety. As you pulled out the choke, you could feel the accelerator being pulled away from your foot, which I guess is how the revs were raised. Can't remember much about that - think it was another SU. Even my 1st fuel-injected car, a Golf GTi had easy-to-understand cold starting. A fifth injector cut in when the engine was cold, enriching the mixture by 25. When an engine jacket heat sensor said so, a solenoid turned it off. We have a policy of actively enforcing our copyright. On a related subject, what was the last mass produced car with a carburettor? I vaguely remember back in my ultra car geek days that the last non fuel injected car you could buy was a Peugeot, might have been the 106 even. My first car was a 1979 Fiat Mirafiori, that allegedly had an automatic choke. Isn't that a sort of hand throttle rather than a choke. It can't be a choke in the traditional sense anyway as it's a diesel. Thats not a choke, I think you are refering to idle speed for when you use winches etc. My mum has a 99 Nissan Patrol with a 4.5 carb engine. Can't be many cars later than that with a carb but there probably are still some on sale in certain markets. This superb example finished in Fiat Grigio Zermatt Metallic, (Code 630), has a deep polished shine and uniform finish to the factory paintwork. The underside is in amazing order and all panels are completely free from corrosion, including all common Uno areas such as doors, boot floor and scuttle. Minor small and shallow dings can be seen to the lightweight side panels, insignificant but worthy of mention. All trim sections are fully intact, and the supplying Fiat Dealer number plates, rear screen sticker and tax disc holder remain fitted. Italian superminis of the 1990’s held a certain undeniable charm, and this super low mileage Uno Designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro’s ItalDesign company is no exception. The spotless seats are surprisingly comfortable and remain firm and supportive with no wear, owing to the very low mileage. The steering wheel and gear knob display prominent natural veins only found on such low mileage examples and all other trim sections are pristine. All functions and controls operate exactly as intended including the original Grundig 3049 stereo cassette and the standard manual choke set up. The parcel shelf remains straight and uncut and fully intact with hangers. A fun and simple interior in wonderful condition. With 30 less moving parts than a conventional engine, the FIRE power unit will provide the new owner with very low running costs but maximum reliability and tremendous fun. A beautifully clean engine bay is exactly as Fiat intended and displays factory protective wax, plates and original stickers. The four-speed gearbox is light and precise, perfectly tuned for a city car. The spare wheel is shod in the factory Pirelli P4 tyre alongside the original jack and brace, and the spotless boot area is totally original, even down to factory build and paint code stickers to the inner boot hatch. Independent brake circuits with servo assistance incorporate front discs and rear drums to bring the car to a straight line stop quickly and safely. Having covered just 21,981 miles from new, the first owner, Mr Arthur Hancock, kept the car for 21 years until the second and only other keeper, Mr Oswald Donald, took ownership. The history file contains previous MOT certificates, invoices and every tax disc from 1993 to 2005. An original sales brochure for the 1992 Uno range completes the history file. A wonderful entry level classic car, guaranteed to attract fond admiration anywhere you take it! Sport, 3p, Special, Rallye, Wagon. The engine was designed by Aurelio Lampredi, famed Ferrari engine designer before he went to work for FIAT (the parent company, at that time). The removable hardtop could be stored in the front boot; a second luggage compartment was provided at the rear of the car, accessible through a conventional boot lid.The combination of fuel injection (FI), a catalytic converter and unleaded gasoline allowed these cars to meet California's and later federal emission standards.First year for distributor access panel in spare wheel compartment.New two-tone paint scheme with the paint line higher on the body, just below the greenhouse. Optional full-width rear decklid spoiler available.Added federally-required center high mounted stop light (CHMSL) for cars manufactured after January 1, 1986; mounted in rear window just below the targa bar.Cable operated Hand brake on the rear calipersOnly one example is known to exist which is currently on display with the Bertone collection in Volandia. The convertible top is not a structure that emerges from behind the passenger compartment area; rather it is a flexible cover that mounts using the original targa top clips along the windshield in front, stretches over and is supported by the new roll bar, and is secured into place in the rear with twist-clips.The Filipinetti had a 1290 cc engine with Lucas mechanical fuel injection.Components and entire body-shells were routinely swapped and replaced as part of the development process, but it is believed that 5 genuine cars were produced. The design featured replacement fibreglass mouldings for the front and rear wings together with front and rear integrated bumper sections. The external modifications were completed by side sill skirts and a rear boot spoiler not dissimilar in style to that found on a De Tomaso Pantera. Faran also offered conversions using Lancia or Fiat Twin Cam engine units, although some owners opted to keep the original SOHC setup. Production of the Faran kits ended following a factory fire.Side skirts completed the styling which featured Ferrari Testarossa style side air intake mouldings ahead of the rear wheels. The bolt-on kit in contrast featured replacement front and rear integrated bumper sections that were moulded to blend with the standard wings. This allowed the 1500 alloy bumpers to be substituted with ease and offer a more modern appearance. Side sill skirts were also included in the bolt-on kit.Phonetically iks-oo-no-nov-eh. UncleShel 5.0 out of 5 stars What's important is the kit provides the components you need to make a manual choke and it takes a little ingenuity to make it work. To start with the universal bracket that comes with the kit wasn't even a close match to my car, and at that wasn't strong enough to do the job. I bought a 5 in. angle bracket and made my own stronger bracket. Next, the cap was a little to large around the outer edge so I ground it down slightly. Also the hole in the cap was too tight for the choke lever post so I enlarged it very slightly. After I had it installed it became obvious the the lever which attaches to the cable was too short, requiring too much pressure to operate. Unless you have a straight shot to the carburetor the cable will bind. In my case the choke housing was on the passenger side of the car so I had to make a couple of bends. I simply used the disgarded support bracket that came with the kit to extend the actuating lever attaching to the cable and everything worked smoothly. The important take away is without the kit the job would have been impossible. With the parts in the kit you can convert to a manual choke with a little work. Don't buy this if you are expecting the kit to work out of the box with no modifications.I had to cut the outer housing shorter to reduce the bending. The cable is so light duty that it didn't actually travel through the coil housing (which doesn't have a vinyl jacket). Back to the weak cable and housing plus the cheap very thin brackets, when pulling or pushing in cable the cheap brackets flex and the cable doesn't move in and out to work the choke. The cable kinks easily. Total junk, took it off and threw it away. Also the holes in the cheapo engine bracket didn't line up with the clamp for the housing. Look else where for cable and parts this is a big disappointment. It worked for about a month and then it binded itself up. I put it back into shape but it still jams up and never works quite right. The manual choke system is very sensitive on my 235 chevy. So this does not really work and I will have to find something elseWorked perfect and the instructions were very straight forward.Mostly in trucks. Comes with all the parts required. The only draw back is that the cable that comes with it is a little flimsy. Sometimes requiring a little more support. Good value for the money. It will last a lifetime. Retain the lever in this position with a rubber band. 30 The throttle valve plate should now be open to give a gap between its edge and the progression holes as specified. Check the gap using a twist drill of equivalent diameter. 31 If adjustment is required, release the locknut and turn the adjustment screw. Retighten the locknut. The choke butterfly should open, leaving a gap (B - Fig 13.38) as specified. Measure the gap with a twist drill of equivalent diameter and make sure that the choke valve plate is in the position shown. If adjustment is required, turn the screw on the diaphragm unit. I’m a sucker for a small Fiat, though as with so many of my flaws I blame my parents for my weakness. Growing up, my mom had a series of tiny city cars from the Italian automaker: a bright red original 500, a rattling 126 with a fiddly manual choke, a boxy Uno and a couple of comparatively sleek Puntos, among others. None would win any awards for refinement, but all had its own particular charm. No, it doesn’t have the oversized, often-overheating engine of the original cars to wear the scorpion badge. Those, after all, required a permanently-propped engine cover at the rear in order to stay anywhere close to properly cooled. What it does have is personality, for better or worse. Out go the regular Fiat badges, replaced with the tuning house’s own, and then comes new fascia front and rear, a new diffuser from which two gun-barrel tailpipes emerge, and a high-level spoiler is perched atop the hatch. The black detailing on the mirrors and lights, along with the side stripe, are optional extras. With the standard five-speed manual transmission it musters 160 HP and 170 lb-ft.
